One man's junk is my treasure...

Thursday, September 13, 2012

When we first moved into our new house this year I knew one thing I had to have in my living room- A white armoire.  I just didn't know it was going to be so hard to find.  After weeks of looking, the only one I could find that I loved was this $1500 one from Pottery Barn, which I knew my husband wasn't going to love.
One day I was complaining to my friend and decorator extraordinaire - Corbin- about my white armoire dilemma and of course he had the ultimate solution!  Buy a used one from a thrift store and then he would help me refinish the piece to look just like the pottery barn one but only better!  So, here's the one I picked up at a thrift store for $100.  It clearly doesn't look like the Pottery Barn one.
So, after a few weekends of hard work- taking off doors, sanding, repainting, putting on new hardware, and distresssing, I got the white armoire I so dreamed about!

Corbin again, and yes, I did actually work too
We added touches of distressing throughout the piece to add a bit of the french look.  You know I have a thing for anything French.

                                                            AND.... Drumroll please.....

The best part of all was my cost:
4 bottles of wine $40
A couple pizzas and wings give or take $30
Total Cost of White Armoire after paint and supplies
$ 220

Thanks again to my decorator extraordinaire...

Fashion's Night Out 2012...

Wednesday, September 5, 2012

For the 4th year in a row editors, stars, models, and fashionistas all over the globe come together for one night- Fashion's Night Out.  This amazing event was started back in 2009 by American Vogue, the Council of Fashion Designers of America, and the city of New York in the US.  It was a global initiative to celebrate fashion, restore consumer confidence, boost the industry’s economy during the recession, and put the fun back in shopping! It's always held at the start of Mercedes- Benz Fashion Week which kicks off in NYC tomorrow!

Kansas City will be celebrating along with Paris, Sydney, Los Angeles, Tokyo, and many other countries and cities throughout the world for this exciting night!

The Country Club Plaza, Zona Rosa, and the Power & Light District will all be featuring fashion shows, makeovers, modeling, and giveaways during the evening.  You can click on the link below to find out who's participating.

My love and I went last year and had a blast! What better way to walk around the Plaza and shop while sipping champagne all for a great cause!  I even scored this amazing Trina Turk dress from Standard! I can't wait too see what I am getting tomorrow night.
Get out for this incredible event!!!

Colored Denim for Fall...

Tuesday, September 4, 2012

Colored denim is back for Fall and in a big way! This was a trend I didn't think would carry over but I am so happy it did.  It seems last year there were only a few colors I would consider putting in my closet but this Fall there's an array of colors to go with everything.   I like to think of colored denim as a great basic these days.  You can wear it with just about everything.  Here are some of my favorites.

The first pair are from the Gap and are one of my favorite colors for the season.  It's called clear lake blue and they run $59.95- This is a perfect color to wear with a chunky jewel toned sweater or cardigan.  You could also do a creme button down shirt or long cardigan with nude pumps or tall brown boots.  Gap also has a wide array of colored cords that will be making their debut for Fall as well.

Next up are Paige Burgundy Denim.  Now, Paige is my favorite denim maker of all time.  The fit never fails me and the pockets are portioned perfectly in the back for my bum.  One of the "it" colors for Fall is Burgundy.  Now, when I first started seeing Burgundy all over the place I wasn't very impressed.  I couldn't really get on board with the color, but I've grown to really like the dark shade.  I like to think of it more as a neutral meaning you can wear with black, white, or gray.  You pay a little more for Paige, these are $189, but remember how good your bum will look.

And, of course Target has jumped on the bandwagon of colored denim.  I was there the other day and was quite surprised how many colors they had to chose from.  It was like a color wheel of denim.  These are the most reasonable at $22.99 and probably the investment that makes the most sense.  This way you can have an array of colors and depending on how long this trend lasts you wont' feel like you've broken the bank.

I plan on wearing my colored denim with lots of sweaters, blazers, and flat for day, heel for night! The most important thing to remember is have fun with your color! What color will you be wearing?
